Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010

I’m a sucker for hunting games, however I am a huge animal lover. I have three cats at home to prove it.  I have three things to say about hunting in general:

1. Shooting animals for sport in “real life” is wrong.

2. People who wear fur should be hunted themselves.

3.  Blowing away ”fake” video game animals  in Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010  is a gas.

Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010 is a very entertaining hunting game, but it’s not a game for animal lovers or Pam Anderson.

However, it’s a great game to bag some really easy trophies.

In about seven hours or less, I have gotten 89% of the trophies in the game with only 3 trophies  to go. None of the trophies I have achieved were very hard to get.  Big Game Hunter 2010 is a little on the easy side, but it’s still a lot of fun to play.

Much like Pam Anderson, the animals that you hunt in the game are not very bright. In fact sometimes you can be standing right in front of them with no cover, pointing a gun at them point blank and they will not run away.

As a hunter, you set out and track animals using your  “hunting sense” which enables you to highlight various paw prints, animal dung or any animal signs on the map.

Activating your hunting sense while using a weapon, you’re able to see with x-ray vision.  You can see through the animal’s skin and target the animal’s vital body organs just so you can make that perfect shot. Shooting the animal in the heart is worth the most experience.  Unlike Red Dead Redemption, the hunting in this game has zero blood and gore, but that doesn’t hinder any of the fun.

There all 28 trophies in total:

1 Platinum, 6 Gold, 7 Silver, 13 Bronze and 1 Secret trophy.

The Secret Trophy is called, “What’s this button do?” It’s really easy to get. Press the L1 button ten times and you got it.

All of the trophies are easy to get. Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010 is worth playing if you want to pad your trophy collection on your PS3, but it’s also a hunting trip worth taking for a few hours.

Happy Hunting!

MAG coming to Playstation Move

MAG is being updated this fall for Sony’s upcoming Playstation Move. The 256 player first person shooter  is headed for a update to support Sony’s camera based motion sensing controller.

MAG’s use of the PlayStation Move controller will copy that was shown at this year’s E3 for SOCOM4. All of MAG’s mechanics will be compatible with the Playstation Move controller.

Gamers will be able to move their weapons  around the screen by pointing with the controller, while the device’s subcontroller handles character movement. The PlayStation Move is hitting stores in North America on September 19.

Along with announcing Move support, Zipper Interactive said that they would be  opening up the MAG beta program on August 24. It’s available to all current MAG owners and the beta will let gamers play test future deployments for the game.

Star Wars Cantina on Playstation Home

With the 30th anniversary of the Empire Strikes Back film just around the corner, LucasArts has decided to give PS3 owners some virtual excitement to help bring the world of Star Wars to PlayStation Home.

Last Friday, anyone with a PlayStation 3 and a fan of Star Wars ought to visit Playstation Home and check out the latest additions.  For purchase there will be a new series of Star Wars costumes for your avatar. The avatar costumes to choose from are:  Leia, Han, Chewie, Luke and C-3PO.  The characters look particularly bitchin’ when dancing.

Once your avatar is decked out in Star Wars gear, they will need a place to hang out, grab some drinks, and watch some movies. That’s why LucasArts is also releasing their first public space — entirely free — for you to enjoy. The Star Wars Cantina has many secrets and bonuses; a dance floor with your favorite song playing, and a movie screen with a ton of videos.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Review

Review Score: 4.5 out of 10

With the new Spider-man game, “Shattered Dimensions” coming to stores on September 7, let’s take a look back at the last Spider-man game that came before it. 2008′s “Spider-man: Web of Shadows”

The Good:

Spider-man (for the most part) looks good . Looks more like the Spidey from the comic book (1970′s Romita style) than the movie one from other games.

The graphics in the city have look decent ”last gen” sort of look. They look good from far away, but lose some detail when you get too close.

Changing suits from the classic red and blue costume to the black ”Secret Wars” costume is kind of neat idea.

Web slinging is sort of fun, but it’s not 100% smooth during game play.

The opening credits are presented in a really interesting way that I haven’t seen in a video game before. The game credits appear on billboards in Times Square as the camera follows Spider-man as he swings by leading you around to each credit.

The Bad:

Where do I begin?
This game has the worst voice acting in the history of Spider-man video games. Spider-man sounds like a teenage version of the nerdy professor guy from the Simpsons. Really, really annoying….. I would have to say  this is the worst voice work in the character’s 48 years across video games, films, cartoons and t.v.  It’s really that bad.

The other characters in the game sound just as terrible as Spidey. Luke Cage sounds like he is talking with a turd in his mouth. The Black Cat sounds really campy and so over the top, you think she’s a villian from the 1966 Batman television show.  It’s really painful to listen to these characters in this game, especially when the voice acting was done so much better in past Spider-man and Marvel games. Venom has the best sounding voice in this game out of all the characters, but that really isn’t saying much.

The web slinging is good, but is not 100% smooth. The wall crawling mechanics are so awful in this game. Nothing is very fluid and the camera is so jerky, that you lose your bearings if you’re on the side of a building. The camera feels all over the place. Wall crawling feels too fast and awkward. I honestly don’t know what happened here…. the Spider-man 1 & 2 movie games or even Spider-man (for the Dreamcast & N64) had way better wall crawling mechanics! Here’s the kicker…. The same company made those games, and then made this one. Go figure.

The combat incredibly sucks in this game. It’s punch, punch, kick, kick, web ball, web ball over and over again. The. A.I. is so dumb in this game, it’s just endless gang-banger after gang-banger, or stupid robots on goblin gliders, shooting at you, shooting at the cops, shooting at each other, over and over again. There are upgrades you can buy for special moves, but upgrading your moves doesn’t make any difference. The special moves are not fluid and way too clunky to enjoy doing. Although, air combat is something new, and at times can be fun, it is also extremely frustrating because of the terrible camera controls.

Although, Spider-man (the character) graphically looks good. The rest of the characters look very blocky and just look very WRONG!!!!
Venom for example, has a weird ”egg shaped” head.  Luke Cage looks like he walked out of an N64′s asshole. Mary Jane looks like a red headed troll women that would make Peter Parker grab a shovel, web sling down to the graveyard and dig up what’s left of Gwen Stacy’s remains… Don’t get me wrong, not that MJ looked amazing in other Spider-man video games, but Mary Jane in Web of Shadows looks well… just plain ugly in this game. The thing that kills me is, all the character graphics look like an early Xbox or PS2 game, and this was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Overall, this game tries to be good, but fails. It is such an half ass effort on so many levels. It might be worth a rental but I would wait for the next Spider-man game to coming along. This game makes you hate Spider-man! It’s sad when my most favorite part of a Spider-man game is the opening game credits. Nuff’ said.

New Avatars with System Update

It looks with the arrival of Playstation Plus, Sony is finally adding more Avatars to the Playstation Store. There was a system update on July 28, now you can buy some more Street Fighter 4 characters and Drake’s Fortune avatars.

I was getting sick and tired of using the Ps3 avatars that you can choose for free in the account management section.

Let’s face it, most of the avatars that come with your PS3 are pretty lame.  I mean, do I really want to have a fucking toothbrush, light plug or happy face as my avatar when I’m online?  Needless to say, I gladly spent .49 cents on the Drake’s Fortiune, Nathan Drake avatar at the Playstation Store.

Let’s hope Sony adds more Avatars to the Playstation Store. I would like to see 200 avatars or more in the store to purchase by the end of the year. Let’s email Sony, and make it happen.
